BELLY DANCERS IN THE AIR

On a bright summer afternoon

Gentle breeze fingering high branches

Two belly dancers perform up in the air

Dancing to inaudible humming melodies

A woman with an old Maltese

Stops and watches the belly dance with owe

Belly dancing up in the air? She mumbles to him

Tending a weeping wound at the edge of his mouth

She walks with Maltese every afternoon

Conscious of his remaining days

Having cheered the woman and a little white dog

Two tiny belly dancers fly away

Humming melodies of “Hello and Goodbye”

For the setting sun, skies pitch a pink tent

Woman and little white dog proceed toward home

벌새들의 공중 허리춤 외 1편

햇볕의 열기가 식어가는 여름 오후

미풍은 높은 나뭇가지들을 만지작거리고

두 마리 벌새가 공중에서 허리춤을 춘다

가냘픈 날개로 북치며 멜로디에 맞추어

몰티스 강아지 한 마리와 여인이 발걸음을 멈추고

경이롭게 벌새들의 공중 허리춤을 쳐다본다.

공중에서의 허리춤이라? 여인은 아물지 않는

강아지의 입언저리 상처를 들여다보며 속삭인다

여인은 매일 오후 몰티스와 함께 산책을 한다.

얼마 남지 않은 강아지와의 날들을 헤아려 보며

여인과 하얀 몰티스를 위해 격려의 공연을 마치고

두 작은 벌새는 재빨리 하늘 저 편으로 날아간다

“만남과 헤어짐”의 멜로디를 날개로 연주하면서

쉬지 않고 하루를 달려온 지는 해를 위하여

하늘은 장밋빛 장막을 친다

여인과 하얀 강아지도 집으로 발걸음을 옮긴다.

THE CEDAR OF LEBANON

You stand tall on a high mountain

Hearing praises of the noble wind

Drinking snow-melted pure water of life

Breathing in the pristine ancient air of the spirit

Cleansing your limbs with morning dews of prayer

You were brought to be pillars, beams, paneling boards of the walls

Of the Temple of Jerusalem

How honored a tree you are

Like an eagle’s protecting wings

Your arching branches outstretched

Your fragrance rises and permeates the spheres of the earth

Your balmy resin endows healing upon wounds

Your faith, reaching the realms of the heavenly glory

May lead many souls onto Eternity

*Foot Note: The cedar of Lebanon is referred many times in the Bible. In Leviticus the cedar wood with Hyssop was used for cleansing ceremony. In Samuel and Kings it was highly prized construction wood and in Psalms and Song of Songs symbolized as magnificence and elegance. It’s image profiles a good shepherd.

레바논의 백향목

레바논의 백향목이여

청량한 하늘 바람의 찬양 들으며

순결한 눈 녹은 생수를 마시며

태고의 신비한 영적 바람을 숨 쉬며 자랐네

매일 새벽이슬의 기도로 몸단장하고

겸허히 높은 산 위에 서 있는 그 모습 존귀하여라

건축자들이 귀히 여겨 들보와 기둥으로

벽을 장식하는 합판으로 예루살렘 성전을

지어 하나님께 봉헌하였네

영광스러운 레바논의 백향목이여

새끼를 보호하는 독수리의 날개처럼

가지들을 사면으로 넓게 펼쳤네

그 향기는 높이 떠올라 대기 속으로 퍼지며

줄기에서 흘러나온 수지는 상처를 능히 치유하며

하늘 영광의 보좌에까지 이르는 굳센 믿음은

많은 영혼들을 영원한 그곳으로 인도 하리라

*백향목 혹은 레바논의 백향목은 성경 전편에 언급되었다. 레위기에는 히솝과 함께 정결례에 쓰였으며, 사무엘서, 열왕기서에는 귀한 목재로 쓰였다. 시편, 아가서에서는 존귀와 우아함의 상징으로 나타난다. 레바논의 백향목이 하나님이 귀히 쓰시는 목자의 상으로 내 마음 속에 다가왔다.
